Comments/Problems:

I installed on a new Asus A8V deluxe equipped with a Promise Sata Controller that I configured as seconde IDE controller.
I have a third hd on that controller that was not detected by the kernels on the old system nor the amd64 install cd (though the kernel modules were loaded), and I wanted to use my old debian sarge system.

I could install Suse, though, without problems and was afraid I had to switch to Suse after more than five years on deb.
Then tried out the Gentoo64 install cd, that also detected the Sata thingie. Installed Gentoo on the third disk (with the Sata)
and compiled a kernel that booted ok.
So I took the sources (2.6.12) plus the Gentoo patches and and compiled the whole stuff on the old debian (32bit) box, et voila.
It turned out that the difference was really the patches: the vanilla 2.6.12 didn't work either. So, I had to change my opinion on gentoo...

Second issue was with the onboard network adapter (under sk98lin). I had it working once, but (don't know what was different) I could not use it as eth0. This
driver was loaded first (there are also eth1394 devices), but I could not address the net, though there weren't any error messages.

I switched it off and use an old realtek card (8139too).

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
