Version: 3.1_r0a
When installing the DVD-iso of release "Sarge" 3.1_r0a the
installation process can't be continued when arriving at the
installation menu containing the 'choose keyboard, choose language,
verify CD images, load modules,....' options.
The computer used is a Compaq presario 7588 (pentium 4) containing a
Compaq DVD-player and a HP CD-writer. This configuration installs in a
correct way the Fedora-core-2 (from CD-rom, using the HP-CDWriter) and
the Mandrake-9.2 releases (from DVD, using the DVD-player), so the
hardware is working correctly.
The system boots correctly from the DVD containing the first binary
DVD-iso (with correct MD5). When trying to verify the images or load
modules the installation process expect a CD inside the CD-player. It
hangs up some time and later on it asks for a CD. When inserting a
dummy CD into the CD-player with the intention that the installation
program detects that it's wrong and starts looking on the second (DVD-)
drive, the program reports that it's not a Debian CD that is
found, "please insert the Debian CD".
It seems that the DVD-iso contains some code meant for the CD-iso:
When booting from DVD the installation program forgets from which
drive it booted (from the DVD-player), and starts looking for the
installation CDROM, which is not present.

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful
The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.
In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.
You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.
If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.
