Install boot loader: [O]
Reboot: [O]

Comments/Problems:

VMWare Machine setup
 removed sound
changed virtual harddrive from scsi to ide
changed cdrom from /dev/cdrom to cd image for cd#1 (/home/me/ISOs/debian-31r0a-i386-binary-1.iso)

Install process - defaults till the 'partition disk' step
empty partition table (new drive, so there wasn't one anyway)
setup the following partitions:
 #1 primary 1.7GB lvm
 #2 primary 444.2MB swap swap
selected "Configure the Logical Volume Manager"
"Write changes to disk?" Yes
Modify volume groups
create 'main_vg'
Modify logical volumes
create 'main_lv' on 'main_vg' (using 1.4GB of 1.58GB)
leave (with 0.18GB of unused VG space)
empty partition table on LVM VG main_vg, LV main_lv
create partition on main_lv
 #1 primary 1.5GB ext3 / (option: noatime)
"Finish partitioning and write changes to disk"
"Write changes to disk?" Yes
****red screen
"Failed to create a file system. The ext3 file system creation in
partition #1 of LVM VG main_vg, LV main_lv failed."
"continue"
change main_lv/part0 from 'do not use' to 'ext3 root noatime'
 #1 primary 1.5GB ext3 /
"Finish partitioning and write changes to disk"
"Write changes to disk?" Yes

and everything is fine after that, so i'm guessing it is just a problem with the
order of things when partitioner commits the changes and formats the partitions.

minor side note, partitioning and configure lvm have different
ideas about the size of a GB on their displays. (lvm "1.4GB" partition "1.5GB")

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
