Comments/Problems:

* During install, while the base system was being copied/installed, I switched to another virtual console to see what modules were loaded. I re-did the check after the first reboot (between base system install and system post-install configuration). While I knew the network hw had been detected and configured via dhcp right from the bat, the sound hardware was not. This is a regression from installer 20040408, where both the
nic and sound hw were detected.

* Actually, while the built-in NIC (matching module: 8139too) was loaded and properly configured (DHCP) during the first stage of the install, once the system has been rebooted, I saw that the nic's modules were no longer configured nor even loaded. The file /etc/modules contained no entries for the built-in nic, the built-in audio or even the system's tvcard. (The tvcard issue was already reported in bug report #243233.) It is like if the installer forgot to write to /etc/modules after detecting the hw.

* This motherboard (and another used, see below) is "apm capable", i.e. apmd _can_ fully shut down the machine. Yet the installer did not notice that and did not try
to load apmd. It should.

* There are other issues (usability of manual partition, etc.), but right now the bigger issue is to get all the hardware recognized and all the required drivers/kernel modules loaded in a "persistent" fashion (survives a reboot). There has been clear
regression in that dept. since d-i 20040408.

* These issues also occured on a machine using a Gigabyte 7VAXP (uses a VIA KT400). Such a motherboard uses the same NIC & sound kernel modules. It has the same video card
(ASUS Radeon 9200SE 64MB AGP).

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
