Comments/Problems:
Install boot loader:
When I came to SILO install phase, I got a red screen with the message
saying (in french , I used the french language )
Installation of SILO failed
I tryed to run silo manually using the following command from the ash shell
# chroot /target
# silo
and I got the message
silo fatal error others filesystem than ext2,ext3,ufs and romfs are not
supported
So I remembered I asked the debian installer to format the root partition
as xfs
I went back to the installer menus, created an ext3 filesystem ,and
reinstalled the base system on it.
I got no warning in the debian installer about xfs on a root partition on
sparc.
Reboot:
As stated in the partition list table., I had already a woody install on
this hard drive. When I rebooted I notice that SILO had installed itself
on
/dev/hda5, which was my woody root partition, and not on /dev/hda8, my
sarge root partition.
Two labels were available for booting from the new lilo prompt:
- Linux, which pointed to the new sarge install with the 2.6.8 saprc64
kernel choosed during the installation
-LinuxOLD which pointed to a non existent kernel
When I booted the new install with the 2.6.8 kernel, two problems appeared :
- the isc dhcp client could not find my dhcp server. I don't know if this
is because I have two NIC, and it was probing the wrong one. During the
install phasae the dhcp client probed the right one.
-when arriving to the post-reboot setup, the keyboard definition was
completetely messed up and I could not type anything at all, from all the
virtual consoles.I mean I typed the letter R on the keayboard I had a "5"
on the screen, I did not have a azerty layout.( I had a qwerty sun type 5
keyboard )
At this point I stopped experimenting.
<Description of the install, in prose, and any thoughts, comments
and ideas you had during the initial install.>
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nano is a nice text editor.
I would have apreciated to find the traditional fdisk utility as an extra
on the install system.
The mkfs ui ( withc choice of what type of mkfs you want do ) is a very
good idea, but it does not give a lot of informnations about in which case
it should be good to create a filesystem with only an inode for 1M, etc ..
Regards
Manu

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful
The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.
In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.
You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.
If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.
Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
