Comments/Problems:
There is an incompatibility between the kernel and my hardhare.
This prevents me booting on most normal ways - e.g. using knoppix or
Debian default boot methods.
I managed to boot knoppix, using the failsafe option.
Debian should also have a way to omit utilizing some of my hardware,
to help the system boot on kernel incompatibilities.
The boot image (and all other boot debian images I tried) did not work.
The system crashed on loading some kernel modules.
I booted using knoppix, formatted the partitions, and used the bootstrapping
to install the system from the network.
I understand that this is a kernel problem, so I tried all other availabe (precompiled) versions of the kernel, but the module still crashes the system.
I include later information about this problem (with one of ythe versions of the kernel)
In order to be able to boot later, I had to prohibit loading the i810_audio module.
Every time Debian rebuilds the modules.conf file, my system is not bootable, and I have to boot using knoppix to correct this (alias i810_audio off).
Install logs and other status info is available in /var/log/debian-installer/.
Once you have filled out this report, mail it to submit@bugs.debian.org.
Here is how I can reproduce the problem, and
# modprobe i810_audio
Note: /etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.4.27-1-386/modules.dep

Here is more information on my modem, that I think causes the problem
(possibly together with the sound card):
UPDATE=2005_Jan_11
ONLY use scanModem downloaded as: http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/scanModem.gz
./scanModem should ONLY be run within a Linux/UNIX partition.
If within a MicroSoft/DOS partition, abort with Ctrl-C now !!!
Copy scanModem.gz to your Linux partition and restart.

The soft modem Subsystem operates under a controller
8086:24c6 82801DB ICH4
capable of supporting under Linux AT LEAST modem Subsystem chips from manufacturers:
Broadcom
AgereSystems
Conexant
Intel
Smartlink
The modem has a Conexant codec: CXT
and there is support for the modem controller: 8086:24c6 82801DB ICH4
Some Linux Distributions include the hsfmodem driver.
Search your packages information for "hsfmodem" and "Conexant".
If not found there, download a hsfmodem package from http://www.linuxant.com .
If there is not an exact match with your Linux distribution and your kernel version: 2.4.27-1-386
then kernel-sources must be prepared as described in Modem/DriverCompiling.txt
before the hsfmodem driver compiling can be successfull.
Get and install hsfmodem drivers from http://www.linuxant.com
Please browse the folder Modem/ containing the following files:
1stRead.txt
DriverCompiling.txt
General.txt
ModemData.txt
Rational.txt
Slmodem.txt
SoftModem.txt
Testing.txt
UNSUBSCRIBE.txt
Let me know if you need more information on my system.
