Comments/Problems:
I can't mount a cd as you can see later in
.bash_history.
Sarge now comes up with gui login. Root is the only
user which gets the system going.
When I get bash by Ctrl-Alt-F5/F1 or F7 and login I
can't see a gui. Startx gives Server Error ...
remove /tmp/.X0-lock.

At root I tried init 3, got nothing. The init 5, still
nothing.
At bash I tried startx -- :1 and got a hang that said
"waiting for server..."

Google found some help but most of it was just idle
chatter like remove /tmp/.X0-lock
instead of specific instructions.
Can you tell me the keystrokes to cure the problem?
Thanks,

The machine is worthless as root only
without a user gui to connect to the Internet.
I can get on the Internet as root but via cabel only
not via ppp.
To send this I have to boot on Knoppix. If there is a
tar command
to write what I have to my DVDwriter and commands to
reload this
and fix it, I would like to know what to do. This is
my first
Debian install although I have been through Knoppix
3.2 to 3.6 for
over a year.

Disk 1-5 of the latest Sarge were downloaded and
burned. They wouldn't boot so booted with month old
Sarge 100 MB
net install disk then used Disk 1 to 4 as instructed.

Maybe I did something wrong in or after install. Here
is

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.

If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.

Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
