] Comments/Problems: I stopped installation at the detect hard drives step, although I could have continued with a workaround. The workaround is to change the "SATA operation" bios parameter in the BIOS. The bios has a menu structure, you need to dig down to "Disks:SATA Operation". The BIOS differs from that in GX270 (#275428), it allows for RAID configuration as well. On the first attempt I had this parameter set to "RAID Auto Detect /AHCI". [bug 1] (Incomplete ICH6 support in kernel-image-2.4.27-1-386) As you will see from the logs, hard disk detection fails. However I am unsure why it fails. There is one possible workaround: 1. change the bios parameter "Disks:SATA Operation" to "Combination". The disk is then correctly detected by the 2.4.27 kernel as "hda" and partitioning can proceed normally. [bug 2] (Incomplete ICH6 support in kernel-image-2.4.8-1-386) The other obvious workaround, booting 'linux26', did not work. It failed to detect the hard disk as well. Same behaviour with netinst 20041004, same disc as in #275428 Logs: ----- see logs.tar.gz attached. The directories are as follows linux.pre-rc2 initial attempt, SATA-Operation="RAID Auto Detect/AHCI" linux.pre-rc2+biostweak same disc, SATA-Operation="Combination" linux26.pre-rc2 same disc, SATA-Operation="RAID Auto Detect/AHCI" linux26.pre-rc2+biostweak same disc, SATA-Operation="Combination" linux26.20041004+biostweak same disc, SATA-Operation="Combination" output of cat /proc/bus/pci/devices is attached as well.Attachment: logs.tar.gz

- From: Christian Perrier <bubulle@debian.org>

- Message-id: <E1OtBn4-000496-P0@ravel.debian.org>
We are closing this installation report for one of the following reasons: - it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian Installer. - indications in the installation report give the feeling that the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to D-I, which we can't easily identify. - indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component - it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-) - it has no information we consider useful The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet. In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be still present, please reiterate your installation test with a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this. You'll find daily builds at http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to install "squeeze" when prompted. If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent against installation-reports. Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian, past and present.
