Bug#552067: Install process "forgets" the CD if left alone for long time

Indeed. I'd say the system tries to suspend the USB CDROM when it's
unused (which makes sense), but that the CDROM (or its driver) is broken
and does not properly support it; that it somehow disconnects and
reconnects itself upon suspend or resume.

The result of this would not be very visible under Windows (where you'd
at most get some spurious error messages about open files not being
available anymore, if that), so it's not unlikely that it's actually a
hardware bug.

The biometric identification system at the gates of the CIA headquarters
works because there's a guard with a large gun making sure no one is
trying to fool the system.
