Bug#541671: Debian/GNU/Linux installation failed on my old Dell pentium

Package: installation-reports

Boot method: CD

Image version: http://laotzu.acc.umu.se/debian-cd/5.0.2/i386/iso-cd/debian-502-i386-CD-1.iso

Date: 15/8/09 14.00 CET

Machine: Dell Optiplex GX200

Processor: Intel Pentium

Memory: 384Mb

Partitions: c:

Output of lspci -knn (or lspci -nn):

Base System Installation Checklist:

[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Initial boot:           [E] After apparently successful installation the machine fails to re-boot from hard disk with “Non system or disk error”

Detect network card:    [O ]

Configure network:      [O ]

Detect CD:              [O ]

Load installer modules: [O ]

Detect hard drives:     [O ]

Partition hard drives:  [O ]

Install base system:    [O ]

Clock/timezone setup:   [O ]

User/password setup:    [O ]

Install tasks:          [O ]

Install boot loader:    [O ]

Overall install:        [ ]

Installation seemed to go ahead without any problems; only confusions I had were deciding what a “Domain” is and what “LVM” means in the partitioning bit
