I think Joey is right that using volume labels is the only really robust way to fix the problem, given that you might be installing from a USB keychain or CD-ROM or whatever. But you might be able to make it a bit better in most cases by passing a parameter like "scsihosts=usb-storage:99" to the scsi core module. That way, the USB device should be allocated the highest host number, and at least the devfs-style names ought to work out in the same order that the installed system will see. p. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-request@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". [ Colin Watson ] * Merge from Ubuntu: - Escape spaces, tabs, newlines, and backslashes in fstab according to the procedure described in getmntent(3) (LP: #38224). - Issue an error message if two file systems are assigned the same label (LP: #320872). - Revamp filesystem mounting. We now default to using UUID= fstab syntax for all partitions if a UUID is available; this is controllable by preseeding partman/mount_style (choices: traditional, label, uuid). Add a comment above each label or UUID fstab entry to indicate the corresponding device at install time (closes: #225802). * Don't display the Back button while checking partitioning and displaying errors as a result, since we ignore backup there anyway (closes: #368294). * Fix proper_mountpoints check to cope with mountpoints containing commas. * Use block-attr from di-utils 1.68. . [ Max Vozeler ] * Use udevadm instead of udevinfo if available (closes: #530904). .
