Even just removing the very last newline in the status file fixes it. (My first hunch was that it could be that main-menu was the last udeb that still depended on libc6 instead of libc6-udeb and that that somehow affected the builds, but that theory went overboard as your grep shows there are other udebs included in the initrd that still depend on libc6.) I also see that the screen is not just wiped once, but in an endless loop. This indicates that the frontend is crashing. Given that changing the status file fixes things, I suspect main-menu is crashing (and not for example cdebconf). In that case the possible culprits are either main-menu or libd-i. Looking at the changelog of the latter, that would be my first suspect. I'm going to build an image with r55491 reverted to see if that fixes things. Cheers, FJP
