Bug#498199: d-i cannot use existing encrypted partition

Package: debian-installer
Version: snapshot 20080906-21:39 (newer than lenny beta 2)

Boot method: CD
Image version: Debian GNU/Linux testing "Lenny" - Official Snapshot i386 NETINST Binary-1 20080906-21:39
Date: 2008-09-06

Problems:

I have a system with an encrypted partition, inside which is an LVM
physical volume containing two logical volumes. One volume contains
my main system, running Etch. I wanted to test the latest
debian-installer snapshot of Lenny by installing into the second
logical volume.

Unfortunately, d-i doesn't support this type of installation. It
does not offer a way to activate an existing encrypted partition.

I have another system with an LVM physical volume on a hard disk
partition--no encryption. Again, it contains two logical volumes.
On this system I had no problems: The partitioner saw the LVM
volumes, and I was able to install testing "Lenny" in one of the
existing volumes while keeping the other volume undisturbed. Nice.

Adding this flexibility to the partitioner for encrypted partitions
would make it easier for more people to use more different hardware
for testing installations.
