I have just had a problem with the CD-ROM not recognised after the start.
I found that dmesg reported a problem with probing IDE interface ide1,
IRQ 15 "Nobody cares, so I will disable it"
after which there was a stream of reports about CD-ROM not found, with a
final note suggesting a re-boot using "irqpoll".
The next installation was started including irqpoll, and it went without
a hitch.
