I have been attempting to install debian for a few days now, using the 4.0r3 CD described above, and later an older 4.0r1 netinst CD. Both CD's boot successfully on other computers. I attempted to boot using auto first, then also rescue, expert and install. I attempted boot also by disabling fb, pcmcia and usb per install guide all resulting in no change.
I have an older Slackware 9.1 w/ 2.4.31 kernel installed & working and wish to re-partition and replace with Debian.

Note that this is not a solution, but a workaround. With these options
you're basically crippling a lot of the hardware support in the kernel.

Try removing these options one by one and check which ones are absolutely
needed.

I'd also suggest you try more recent kernels (2.6.24) to see if they have
better support for the hardware. If not, you should file a bug report
against the Debian kernel or, what may be more effective, in the BTS for
the upstream kernel developers [1].

As the installation itself was now apparently successful and the issue is
not related to the installer itself, I'm closing this installation report.

Cheers,
FJP
