Package: debian-installer
Version: 20070308etch1
Severity: wishlist

It would be nice if the installer would tell the user how he/she can
report bugs about the installer. It is not very obvious for a newbie
to look for a package named debian-installer (even thought it has an
intuitive name). Also, the installer should mention the version number
"20070308etch1" somewhere since otherwise users will think that
"4.0r2" would be the version they are using.

Even more complex wish would be to include bug reporting functionality
in the installer itself and may be even provide real-time support via
IRC? ;-)

The preferred way to report issues is to file an installation report, as is
explained in the Installation Guide and mentioned in several places on the
Debian website.

The quick summary:
$ reportbug installation-reports

Other users don't seem to have much trouble finding that information and we
certainly don't want to add a dialog during the installation just for that
information.

I doubt we will ever implement that as we cannot really be sure the report
would be submitted correctly at any point in the installation.

As we do not consider this to be an issue, I'm closing your report. Thank
you for submitting it.

Cheers,
FJP
