lilo-installer still contains a lot of code for dealing with devfs. Is
it really true that the code no longer works?

FWIW, here's the template change I came up with:

 Template: lilo-installer/manual_bootdev
 Type: string
 _Description: LILO installation target:
- Please enter the partition or disk onto which LILO should be installed.
- Devfs style names, such as those that start with /dev/ide, /dev/scsi,
- and /dev/discs are accepted, as well as traditional names, such as /dev/hda
- or /dev/sda.
+ Please enter the device name of the partition or disk onto which LILO should
+ be installed.
