When I tried booting with either the install or the rescue kernel, I quickly 
got the OpenBoot prompt back after the message:

Allocated 8 megs of memory at 0x40000000 for kernel

After initial download of the ISO, I verified the md5sum and this was correct. 
However, during burning something must have gone wrong. I burned the same 
image to another disc (and with slower burn-speed), booted this new disc and 
first boot went fine. Will send a new installation report.
