Package: installation-reports Version: 2.23 Severity: normal By and large the whole install went fairly easily. The only two notes I had during the first stage: - I prefer cfdisk to this partitioning process, but it worked fairly well - This was a network install and it took a while to download packages. There was no indication of download speed so I did wonder whether there was a problem with the mirror or not. However, after the reboot the X configuration was totally broken. Going so far as to complain that the "kbd" and "mouse" modules were missing. And indeed, the only installed xserver packages were: ii xserver-xorg 7.1.0-9 ii xserver-xorg-core 1.1.1-13 ii xserver-xorg-input-acecad 1.1.0-1 ii xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 0.14.6-1 ii xserver-xorg-video-apm 1.1.1-3 Which wasn't enough to get anywhere. I installed the following packages by hand: ii xserver-xorg-input-kbd 1.1.0-4 ii xserver-xorg-input-mouse 1.1.1-3 ii xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.6.3-2 ii xserver-xorg-video-vesa 1.3.0-1 And added "vesa" to the xserver config and X came up fine. The actual video card is a an "ATI Radeon X1400" which AIUI isn't supported, but the vesa driver handles it fine. I may try the latest installer to see if this has improved. -- Package-specific info: Boot method: CD Image version: Debian GNU/Linux testing _Etch_ - Official Snapshot i386 Binary-1 (20061111) Date: 10/Jan/2007 Machine: Dell Inspiron 6400 Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot: [O] Detect network card: [O] Configure network: [O] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Install base system: [O] Clock/timezone setup: [ ] User/password setup: [O] Install tasks: [O] Install boot loader: [O] Overall install: [O] Comments/Problems: See top of mail. -- Please make sure that the hardware-summary log file, and any other installation logs that you think would be useful are attached to this report.
