Are Debian binaries generally relocatable like this?

In any case, debootstrap is used in Nexenta in order to build zone 
filesystems. You might look at files related to the package 
nexenta-zones. The zones functionality in the current beta releases 
doesn't work out of the box but the coming NCP 1.0 release does. In any 
case, it's an easy fix to get the scripts working and have a good 
example of debootstrap under Solaris.
