Comments/Problems:

At "disk stage" there was a strange hick up,
some "LVM warning" that I "clicked away".
It continued with the "how to partion the disk"
Then again failures, VT4 revailed:

 partman: Could not stat /dev/ide/host-1/bus1/target/lun0/part1 --- No such file or directory
 partman:
 partman: The device apparently does not exist; did you specify it correctly?

ls -l /dev/ide/host-1/bus1/target/lun0 shows only

 brw-rw---- 1 root root 22, 0 Jan 16 22:36 cd
 brw-rw---- 1 root root  3, 0 Jan 16 22:36 disc

so no special files for the partitions like part1

Further information:
* uname -r = 2.6.15-1-sparc64
* I missed/didn't see the 'writting sun disk label' warning

Due the switch to udev,
there is no need to keep the bugreport open.
