Bug#431741: booting hangs

Package: netinst
     Version: 4.0

Architecture: i386

Laptop Compaq Presario 1714EA

256MB RAM

Network

I have successfully installed Debian 4.0 with the netinst cd from the distribution on the same hd with Windows XP

after repartitioning. The grub works apparently fine, the windows boots perfectly but Debian hangs after a while at

about finishing the boot. I suspect that the video card has to do with it, as it some times – without apparent reason –

hangs also inside the windows. Is there a method to debug the booting step by step?

Sincerely

Dimitris Logothetis
