Comments/Problems:
If 30GB ipod is connected via USB during install, it hangs.
During "Starting up the partitioner.."
"Scanning disks..."
I get the message
"Warning!
Device /dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/disc has logical sector size
of 2048. Not all parts of GNU parted support this at the moment, and
the working code is highly experimental."
After this message is dismissed, the installer process hangs.
This message does not happen, and the installation proceeds
successfully, if the ipod is not connected.
I suggest this be placed in workarounds / known issues.
Note that the installer release / library info below is for my current
install, which is not the same one that I'm reporting against. It is
the same physical system, however.

Version: 1.7.1-2.1
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.5-1), libuuid1-udeb
Provides: libparted1.7-1
Description: The GNU Parted disk partitioning shared library
GNU Parted is a program that allows you to create, destroy,
resize, move and copy hard disk partitions. This is useful
for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising
disk usage, and copying data to new hard disks. This package
contains the Parted binary and manual page.
.
This package contains libparted, the required shared library
used by Parted. This is a cut-down package with no normal
documentation intended to be used in debian-installer.
.
Parted currently supports DOS, Mac, Sun, BSD, GPT, MIPS and
PC98 disklabels/partition tables, as well as a 'loop' (raw
disk) type which allows use on RAID/LVM. Filesystems which
are currently fully supported are ext2, ext3, fat (FAT16
and FAT32), ReiserFS (with libreiserfs) and linux-swap.
Parted can also detect and remove HFS (Mac OS), JFS, NTFS,
UFS (Sun and HP), XFS and ASFS/AFFS/APFS (Amiga) filesystems,
but cannot create, resize or check these filesystems yet.
.
Note that ReiserFS support is only enabled if you install
the libreiserfs0.3-0 package. Since libreiserfs0.3-0 has been
removed from sarge, ReiserFS support is not compiled in the
default package.
.
The nature of this software means that any bugs could cause
massive data loss. While there are no known bugs at the moment,
they could exist, so please back up all important files before
running it, and do so at your own risk.

This package contains the loop-AES loadable Linux kernel modules
compiled for kernel 2.6.17-2-amd64-di
.
loop-AES can be used to encrypt disk partitions, removable media,
swap space and other devices. It provides measures to strengthen
the encryption: Passphrase seeds, multiple hash iterations, MD5 IV
and use of alternating encryption keys.
.
Encryption keys can be stored in a GnuPG-encrypted keyfile, which
allows the passphrase to be changed without re-encryption. Keyfiles
can also be encrypted asymmetrically for multi-user access.
.
This package includes the cipher modules blowfish, twofish and
serpent in addition to the default cipher (AES).
.
If you compiled a custom kernel, you will most likely need to
compile a custom version of these modules as well. The package
loop-aes-source has been provided for this purpose.

GNU Parted is a program that allows you to create, destroy,

for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising
disk usage, and copying data to new hard disks. This package
contains the Parted binary and manual page.
.
This package is similar to the "big" parted package, but has
less cosmetical features resulting in smaller binary. Intended
to be used in debian-installer.
.
.
The nature of this software means that any bugs could cause
massive data loss. While there are no known bugs at the moment,
they could exist, so please back up all important files before
running it, and do so at your own risk.
