Comments/Problems:

Steps / observations
1. Partman displayed my hard disk correctly.
2. I have chosen a manual partitioning.
3. Partman displayed my current partitioning.
4. I created successfully a partition in the unused space: primary 8 GB,
ext3 on /
5. Partman did not allow to create an other partition (for swap) in the rest
of the unused space.

I suspect partman is unable to create a logical partition in the free space
(in that particular situation).
(Having a good bunch of RAM, that does not hurt me to much).
