Subject: discover1: funny output; can't open file
Package: discover1
Version: 1.7.18
Severity: normal

When the /etc/init.d/discover script calls /sbin/discover error
messages are returned complaining about not being able to open files
with control sequences as names. The same result is produced by just
executing /sbin/discover.

Sample output:

om:/etc# /etc/init.d/discover start Detecting hardware...Can't open file
`)?U' for reading!
Can't open file `ģڣ' for reading!
Can't open file `' for reading!

Can't open file `Xx' for reading!
Can't open file `8Xx' for reading!
Can't open file `' for reading!
MODULES= ide-scsi
Discovered hardware for these modules:

om:/etc# /sbin/discover

Can't open file `Xx' for reading!

Maybe a locales problem? Root has a uni-code locale.
