Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Initial boot: [O]
Detect network card: [O] (not the wireless lan usb: Netgear MA111)
Configure network: [O] (not with DHCP, because i have no DHCP server)
Detect CD: [O]
Load installer modules: [O]
Detect hard drives: [O]
Partition hard drives: [O]
Install base system: [O]
Clock/timezone setup: [O]
User/password setup: [O]
Install tasks: [O]
Install boot loader: [O]
Overall install: [O]

Comments/Problems:

With the tasksel installation "Desktop-Umgebung", there is only Gnome installed.
If I want to use KDE, it is necessary, to install KDE outside of "tasksel".
With Debian 3.1r1 "Sarge", the KDE is installed, too.
At the moment, Gnome is preferred.
Suggestion: In tasksel, create the tasks "Gnome Desktop-Umgebung" and "KDE Desktop-Umgebung".

In tasksel, the tasks "Desktop-Umgebung" and "Standard-System" are installed.
The package "wpasupplicant" is installed, but not the package "wireless-tools".
It makes no sense, only to install "wpasupplicant", because the package "wpasupplicant" needs the "wireless-tools".
Either install both packages "wireless-tools" and "wpasupplicant", or none of these two packages.

There is only the kernel-image for 486er Systems installed.
The K7 kernel is not installed.
On my Notebook (Pentium M), the 686 kernel was installed.
You can see the installation report from my notebook at installation report #410226.

Bernhard

This has often been discussed and is not going to change very soon. There
are separate CD images available to install KDE and the installation
guide also has instructions how you can install KDE.

If that were really true, wpasupplicant should depend on wireless-tools
which it does not. So I can only assume that it is usable without it.

That is only because you used the netinst image for your installation
which does not contain the k7 kernel. With any other installation method
the k7 kernel would have been selected automatically.

Closing this report as there were no real issues. You can still reply if
you have additional information on the wpasupplicant issue.

Thank you for filing the report.
