That is mentioned at at least two places in the manual
(this could be improved though):
/trunk/manual/en/preparing/minimum-hardware-reqts.xml
/trunk/manualen/preparing/minimum-hardware-reqts.xml
AND:
Maybe that should be mentioned in the installer itself?
(on the boot prompt press F1: "You need at least 24 MB of RAM
to use this installer".)
