the rectangles show which glyphs are missing in the font file
looking at [1] shows that the following glyph is missing
<U5f7c>
it's used 2 times in translations for level 3:

looking at [2] shows that thefollowing are missing
<U533f> used 1 time
<U5f79> used 1 time
<U6bce> used 1 time
<U9031> used 1 time
<U6c17> used 3 times
as you can see from
http://d-i.alioth.debian.org/spellcheck/level2/latest/nozip/ja_codes.txt
Just checked the font file and all the above glyphs have been included in
the version 1.5 of ttf-cjk-compact-udeb uploaded Thu, 31 Aug 2006 09:14:59
this means that if you tried a newer version [3] everything should be fine
