INSTALL REPORT

Debian-installer-version: debian-31r3-i386-netinst.iso from the debian WEB site obtained on September 7, 2006.

Date: Installed September 8, 2006.
Method: How did you install?  What did you boot off?  If network
      install, from where?  Proxied?
      Installed from netinst image first, rest over the net (DSL), from the first mirror that comes up for the US.

Machine: ASUS motherboard P4P800 SE with ATI Excalibur 3D Graphics Card in AGP slot. Two hard drives (one 70 GB used for Windows, one 250 GB used for Windows backup and debian), one DVD read drive, one DVD read/write drive, one  3 1/2 inch floppy drive.  Ethernet port, 8 USB ports and sound integrated on motherboard.  More details see below under lspci.
Processor: Intel Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache.
Memory: 2 GB.
Root Device: IDE 250 GB hard drive.
Root Size/partition table:

Comments/Problems:
I had to edit XF86Config-4 to get to my full screen resolution without which not much work could be done.  Not a big deal, but I was wondering why the full resolution could not be detected.

Sound does not work at all - still working on it.  The motherboard vendor provides an alsa driver for the sound "card" for download, which I will try next.  The instructions that come with it call for kernel re-compilation...

There are two printers attached, a NEC Silentwriter 95f via parallel port and a Canon BJC-3000 via USB.  I could get both of them to work on the debian machine, but I also wanted to use this machine as a print server for a bunch of connected Windows XP machines (which it is when booted under Windows XP).  However, this still does not work.

Both these are typical problems with sarge (and also etch) and not
considered to pertain directly to the installer which explains why I'm
hereby closing this bug report.

This does not of course mean you weren't right to report. Knowing the
installations are correct is important for the d-i team.

Many thanks for your time testing the Debian Installer and reporting
