Bug#385219: partman-auto-lvm recipes should support a free space partition type.

Package: partman-auto-lvm
Version: 13
Severity: wishlist

I am not even sure if it's a goal for partman to replace autopartkit.
But if so, it should support atleast the same features.

I wish for a partition type in the recipes called free_space. if you want partman to leave some space available in the volume group after creating the logical volumes, you could add a freespace partition with $lvmok tag. and partman would calculate space for it, but not create a logical volume, effectivly leaving it free.

There migth be more logical ways to do this, but i imagine this would be
easy to implement.

Reason for this wish is, that it's easy to online resize a filesystem when you grow it, but you need to unmount to reduce it. And one of the great things of LVM is that you can assign the space you need now, and leave room for growth when you need it.
But most importantly, becouse autopartkit supports it.

One Could argue that the time would be better spent on making online partition reduction work. but that's a different package.
