quoting from #383739:
"quik just mounts 1 ext2 partition and reads etc/quik.conf, loads kernel
and initrd from the pathnames indicated in quik.conf. So if you want a
split /boot and root, you need to put your kernel(s) in /boot and put
quik.conf in /boot/etc/quik.conf."
And quik-installer does exactly this.
That what it is *supposed* to do. It doesn't work, which is why I have
filed the bug report on #383739 and this one. If it is supposed to
work it needs to be fixed.
