Comments/Problems:
The motherboard uses a ICH6-M chipset for SATA, and had to be installed
in "sata legacy" mode for the installer to recognize the drive and even then
I had to boot off a 2.6.16.18 kernel from my previous setup on this machine
to boot properly.
The netcard is a Marvell 88E8053 which is supported by the new sky2 driver, so
that was another reason to use a newer kernel.
The initial install on this motherboard had to be on a PATA disk, or using a
PCI SATA card with a Sil3114 controller.
Install logs and other status info is available in /var/log/debian-installer/.
Once you have filled out this report, mail it to submit@bugs.debian.org.

You used the Sarge installer. The 2.6.8 kernel used in that version of the
installer is known to have very limited SATA support. If installing Etch
is an option for you, you may want to consider using the Etch version of
the installer which uses a much more current kernel.
The sky2 driver is also supported in the Etch version of the installer.
On the other hand, you seem to have successfully worked around the issues.
I'm closing your report anyway as the limited SATA support is a known
issue. Thanks very much for filing your report.
Cheers,
FJP
