INSTALL REPORT

Debian-installer-version: svn-up run just before install, and
network-console built at that point; network-console put into
localudebs.

Comments/Problems:

FBA disks can be detected but not formatted. It would be nice if there
were a way to use preformatted swap, like we could with Woody, since I
use SWAPGEN to write a swap signature to a DIAG-accessible FBA V-DISK
before booting. ("formatted" is misspelled as "formated" in the device
partitioning stage, too.)

The network config stuff now works, at least for qeth. modutils does
*not* correctly uncomment "alias eth0 qeth" but I have already filed a
bug against that. IUCV doesn't work and I'll take a look at that soon.

Then network-console is started and I SSHed in; this worked fine too,
although the border characters were strange--this may be, however, due
to my locale setting in my X Session or something. In any event it
didn't harm functionality.

After that, everything still goes fine up to the boot loader
installation. That still writes an incorrect parm line. However, by
applying the attached patch to zipl-installer.postinst, the correct parm
line will be written (the symlink issue has been fixed).

After that, reboot does not work. On manual /sbin/halt and reipl from
disk, ssh is not started, so it's still necessary to fix
/etc/modutils/arch/s390, run /sbin/update-modules, reIPL, remove
/etc/securetty and start inetd. Once you do that, you can telnet in and
run base-config, and everything works as expected.

Low memory installation still gets a failure when freeing memory, but
otherwise behaves identically.

I'm pretty sure network-console fixed this bug a while ago, but since
base-config no longer needs to be run, it's certianly irrelevant now.
Closing.
