I don't think that this problem is restricted to users of italian
environments.

Things have changed recently when it comes at keyboard chooser for PPC
users, IIRC. Are you able to test with a recent image of the
installer?

It doesn't need you reinstall a machine: you just need to boot the
installer on your Ibook, choose Italian as language, see what keyboard is
proposed for you to choose (will be named "Italian" anyway)....load
it, then switch to VT2 and test whether this is the right mapping.
