Package: debian-installer
Severity: normal

This report is about debian-installer etch beta 2.

I used the debian-installer as "expert", which installs a 2.6 kernel.
The installation ended up with package modutils, not module-init-tools.
I don't think this is a problem before you start playing with your own
modules - but it is wrong, package modutils is related to 2.2 and 2.4
kernels.

But it also makes it a problem of a completely different order. The answer
is in the syslog:
debootstrap: Selecting previously deselected package module-init-tools.
debootstrap: Unpacking module-init-tools
             (from .../module-init-tools_3.2.2-2_i386.deb) ...
debootstrap: Selecting previously deselected package modutils.
debootstrap: Unpacking modutils
             (from .../modutils_2.4.27.0-3_i386.deb) ...

This means that both packages are currently part of the base system (so
defined in their control file) and thus automatically installed by
debootstrap.

The contents of the base system will probably be reviewed a bit closer to
the release of Etch.

Having both installed can do absolutely no harm. Of course you are free to
uninstall modutils if you like.

Closing your report as this is a bit of a non-issue.

Cheers,
FJP
