Package: install
Severity: important

installing sarge or etch with linux 2.4 is okay, but very slow and it
hangs a lot. trying to install both with linux 2.6 is still not
possible. after installing i always compile 2.6 with libata_enabled=1 in
/linux/drivers/scsi/libata_core.c. this fixes the problem and makes a
very useful and fast system. since many notebooks have the same problem
there should be a way made to solve this problem. at all i don't know
what it would mean for others if libata_atapi is true! it works fine for
me!

greetings form austria!

This issue is listed (with description of workaround) in the errata [1]
for Beta 2. There is nothing we, the Debian Installer team, can do about
this. We have to wait until unstream kernel developers or Debian kernel
packagers decide this feature is ready to be enabled by default.

We expect that to happen in one of the next kernel releases.

Closing this bug as it is a known issue.

Thanks for reporting.

Cheers,
FJP
