Bug#359029: Installation fails

Boot method: floppy and CD, both
Image version: current floppy images, weekly CD netinst and weekly CD 1 of full set both etch and sarge.
Date: recently -- this week. Ten attempts over the month.

Machine: older ASUS micro w/integrated audio video i810, 8139too NIC, 41 gB drive.
Processor: Celeron 466mHz
Memory: 256mB RAM
Partitions: 22mB FAT primary, 224mB primary for linux root filesystem following the FAT, some logical partitions for swap, var, tmp, usr, home. Dual booting XP machine with some ntfs partitions.
Output of lspci and lspci -n: not available at this time

Comments/Problems:
I don't see the kernel image in the filesystem after using initramfs but sometimes when using yaird. Needing to install lilo in the root partition PBR (hda2), the error message on attempting to install the boot loader is "filesystem would be destroyed" on installer Beta1 and no message on Beta2. An earlier testing distro had been on and working well until it died for unknown reasons shortly after 2.6.15-1 went on. Things look fairly intact.
