Fwd: [DejaVu-fonts] DejaVu and Vietnamese

I've just received this response from the DejaVu developer Keenan Pepper:

In this shot, many of the characters have been rendered in a different
font other than DejaVu, including ones that exist in DejaVu 2.4.

I took a look at vi.wikipedia.org and it looks pretty rough (mostly
from lack of hinting), but not as bad as that shot.

Of course, I don't speak Vietnamese, so...

Keenan

I've referred him back to my page, for more info on how to display Vietnamese correctly, and have also asked him what he thinks could have caused the mixed display in the screenshot quoted above.

Especially since DejaVu 2.4 displays Vietnamese readably on my system (Mac OSX), if not entirely correctly in terms of shape and position of diacritic.

I didn't think it was possible to use more than one font at once, in a single document. :o

We'll leave vi.wikipedia's shortcomings out of the discussion for now... ;)
