Attilio, thanks for this patch and working out this console switching 
option, but...

By accident I yesterday came across a simple way to remove "Execute a 
shell" from the main menu by adding an "isinstallable" file for it which 
exits 1 if the gtk frontend is used.

I do very much prefer that to switching to VT2 when the user uses that 
menu option as it is not intuitive how to switch back. I also think that 
opening a shell from the menu is not the optimal way to open a shell for 
the graphical installer.

This does not of course mean that we should not still find a way to open a 
shell within the graphical environment. I've retitled the BR for this.
