The "Download debconf preseed file" appears immediately after the "Configure network" item has been run. Running it seems to trigger network-preseed.postinst, which I made "set -x" as suggested. The result is that attached log file. It features a first attempt *without* "set -x" and another one *with* it I also add /var/lib/preseed/log though I think it is useless here.
