Netinst + CD installer now requires a mirror? Howto install without internet/mirror access?
Hi,
For some time now, we've been using the netinst image as a basis for our
own special-purpose installation disk.
Very often, installation takes place inside a private network with no
internet connection and hence no debian mirror (e.g. production lab).
It seems that now the pre-beta2 images (try to) require a functioning
network and access to a mirror to proceed. Beta1 did not.
A "No Mirror at this time" option would be very nice and clean here...
What *is* possible is to enter a bad mirror manually (e.g. ""), make it
fail (red screen), hit "Go Back" which gives me the long task list of
things that need to be done, skip to the next step, and proceed from
there. Later on, it mentions about the mirror being in-accessible or
failing (I forget the wording), but here there is a "skip this step"
option.
Now I'm wondering how difficult it will be to create a new custom image
that skips the mirror step automatically...
May I suggest a clean way of installing the Netinst image without access
to a network and/or mirror?
I realize it is probably called the *NET*inst image for a reason, but
the fact that it in fact is possible to install it even without a mirror
is very useful and handy!!! Could it please be supported too? Or should
I expect it to stop working completely sometime in the future?
I did try CD1 from the Full set too, but that seemed to require a mirror
too...
