Bug#350154: installation report

I have very few indications about the DHCP problems. The installation procedure identified (correctly) eth0 as an intel nic and eth1 as a firewire-bridged nic (Sony i-link'd docking station). The procedure only allowed for automatic DHCP discovery. When that failed, it

Not exatcly. By default, the question about DHCP or not is not asked.

Try using "linux DEBCONF_PRIORITY=medium" and you'll be prompted about
DHCP.

Anyway, when DHCP fails, the installer falls back to static network
setting as you noticed, so no bug here.

Can you switch to console 2 when you get the mirror failure message
and run "ifconfig eth0" from there and maybe try to ping another host
on the network (I don't remember whether we have ping at this
step....you can also try "wget http://somehost/someurl"; for somehost
and someurl being valid HTTP host and URL on your local network)

OK;

I'll give it a try tomorrow. It's a bit late for any talk of wgets and eth0s...<grin>.

thanks for the pointers,
Craig
