Package: installation-reports

Boot method: netinst CD-ROM

Image version:
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/i386/iso-cd/debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso

Date: 2006-01-23

Machine: Workstation built by Transtec (www.transtec.de)
Processor: AMD64 3700+
Memory: 1 GB
Partitions: trying to install on second SATA disk (SCSI4/sdb)

Output of lspci and lspci -n: N/A

Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Initial boot worked: [O]
Configure network HW: [O]
Config network: [O]
Detect CD: [O]
Load installer modules: [O]
Detect hard drives: [O]
Partition hard drives: [O]
Create file systems: [O]
Mount partitions: [?] I guess they mounted OK to begin the
				installation.
Install base system: [E]
Install boot loader: [ ]
Reboot: [?] Well, I was able to reboot, of course :)

Comments/Problems:

While trying to install the base system, the following packages couldn´t
be downloaded from debian mirrors:

e2fslibs
e2fsprogs
findutils
libblkid1
libcomerr2
libsasl2
libss2
libuuid1

The network connection was definitely working since I could see the
outgoing requests in the logfile of our proxy. The installation goes on
to the point where it tries to chroot /target which it says is not possible.

Mainboard is an Asus A8N5X with ATAPI DVD-drive and SATA harddisks.

The installer was trying to load the floppy module. This appears to be
somewhat unneccessary since no floppy is installed, and current systems
tend not to have floppy disk drives anymore. It better be loaded only on
request.

The stable installer (for Sarge 3.1) does _not_ work with that; it has
trouble detecting the disks and doesn´t have a network driver for the
NVIDIA onboard NIC, so I tried testing. I´ll try the recommended
installer image next since I need to get this system to work.

Hence closing as the problem was probably related to the images you
were using...
