The way it does work (and how started myself) is to just jump in. Look over bug reports, try to reproduce the problem, try to debug it. If you find a solution submit it to the BTS. Do that a few times with nice results and you'll get commit access and find yourself unable to leave the project for the rest of your life. If you don't know how to do something, ask on the #debian-boot IRC channel or the list. If you want to work on documentation, there is plenty of work for the installation guide. Read the document, take a look at the sources, read the instructions for building that are in the repository. A lot needs improving. Patches are welcome. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the manual needs to document all architectures and installation methods, not just i386 CD installation. So, find something YOU think you can do, and send us the results (preferably using the BTS). Cheers, FJP
