Hello, I hope that my report will help; I believe it is important, if I
have not mistaken, because I am afraid that a lot of French (and PC
azerty users) of the new Debian installer won't be able to log in their
new Debian desktop. See the comment of my installation.

Comments/Problems: I have chosen to install the kernel 2.6 with the
"linux26" command at the boot. The installation was quick and easy, and
I firstly want to congratulate the developpers. But I have chosen the
lower priority installation and I met at least one serious problem after
the installation: I was unable to log in my desktop, as user as well as
root: my password did not work. I have understood that the
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 was not correctly configured and I have solved the
problem with a dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 , where I was able to
choose "pc 105" and "fr" for my keyboard. I am not an expert, but if I
was a real newbie, I had never succeed to use my Debian desktop after
this installation. I would be pleased if the developpers could find a
solution for non us users of the new installer of Debian Sarge. The
second point, which is less important, is that the 1024x768 definition
for the screen is not given as default and the result is a rough screen
image. Again , a dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 has solved this minor
problem. It would be better, in my opinion, with a lower priority
install to give the 1024x768 definition as default.
These two points aside, my feeling is very good about the new installer.
Debian GNU/Linux is great, and I am pleased to help, if this report and
comments can help. All the best,
Jo.
