FWIW, I don't see these errors on i386 or on alpha, so I think they are
somehow related to the graphical installer.

However, I am seeing the frontend crash and retart on alpha, though not, 
I think, on i386. Here's how it looks on alpha:

Seems cdebconf is crashing in the middle of the dpkg --purge, but I don't
know why.
