Bug#342656: Confirm missing ppp

I confirm that PPP installs are getting really painful. I'm aware of the poor state of PPPoE installs in sarge, but the last installs I've done from Etch beta 1 (and a 20051207 sid d-i) were even harder, since 3 packages have to be retrieved and installed manually (libpcap, ppp, pppoeconf). I asked #debian-boot about this and joeyh explained me that a debootstrap change was responsible for this. I figured he reffered to a change in 0.3.1 closing #193134. Since none of these packages are important, they're not included in the netinst anymore. If this issue isn't yet worked on, I'd like to know what can be done about it. Does the d-i team recognize that ppp should be included in netinsts? If so, how should this be fixed? Hardcoding the packages in debootstrap? Make d-i pass them as additional packages to debootstrap? Increasing the packages priority? Note that libpcap+ppp+pppoeconf is about 0.5 MB. Not negligible, but small enough to be worth including IMO.

I wouldn't want to turn attention away from the original attention of this bug though. What this is about is that there is a ppp udeb on the netinst, but d-i doesn't seem to offer any way to use it. Apparently d-i assumes that just setting up ethernet will be enough to have an Internet connexion.
