It should of course be documented in the Installation Guide. I think most users will be able to find the available keyboard shortcuts. <TAB> and <Enter> are intuitive enough. Escape is used so seldom that just tabbing to the button is an acceptable alternative IMO for those who can't find the <Esc> key shortcut. The only one I had to search for a bit is <+> to expand the country list. Another option especially suitable for the graphical installer is a small help icon somewhere that would pop-up a help screen which could show the shortcuts. I still don't see any reason to list them on the main screen. > what do you think is the best arrangement? > > [1] https://debian.polito.it/downloads/message_statusbar.png > [2] https://debian.polito.it/downloads/message_label.png Well, I prefer [1]. But then again, see my earlier comments :-P > [3] https://debian.polito.it/downloads/message_label_rescue.png Rescue mode could be a bit bigger and maybe could even be put on top of the logo (upper right corner), maybe with a border around it (automatically grow to the left) when an info text is dispayed. Even without the help text, I feel the info text should be at the top of the screen.
