Re: Re: [g-i] fonts: a few thoughts

Some more experiments with fonts; this time I only hacked
inside qemu.

I noticed that /usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont
does not contain "fonts.cache-1" which I
created by running "fc-cache -vf"

if you look at "fonts.cache-1" here's what I found:

"FreeSerif.ttf" 0
"FreeSerif:familylang=en:style=Medium,navadno:stylelang=en,sl:slant=0:we
ight=80:width=100:foundry=unknown:index=0:outline=True:scalable=True:cha
rset= [...]
[...]
lang=aa|ab|af|am|ast|ava|ay|ba|be|bg|bi|bin|bn|br|bs|bua|ca|ce|ch|chm|co
|cs|cu|cv|cy|da|de|el|en|eo|es|et|eu|fi|fj|fo|fr|fur|fy|ga|gd|gez|gl|gn|
gv|haw|he|ho|hr|hu|ia|id|ie|ik|io|is|it|kaa|ki|kk|kl|ku|kum|kv|kw|ky|la|
lb|lez|lt|lv|mg|mh|mi|mk|mo|mt|nb|nds|nl|nn|no|ny|oc|om|os|pl|pt|rm|ro|r
u|sah|se|sel|sh|sk|sl|sm|sma|smj|smn|so|sq|sr|sv|sw|tg|th|tig|tk|tn|to|t
r|ts|tt|tyv|uk|uz|ven|vo|vot|wa|wen|wo|xh|yap|yi|yo|zu:fontversion=75366
:capability=otlayout\\:DFLT otlayout\\:arab
otlayout\\:latn:fontformat=TrueType"

I deleted FreeSerif.ttf, run again "fc-cache -vf" and looked again at
"fonts.cache-1" which now
does not contain the word "arab".
If I run again debconf, latin fonts look Italic, Arab language doest
still contain some
bold glyphs in the middle of text, which look like those I've noticed in
FreeSansBold.ttf
(http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2005/12/msg00253.html contains the
unicode range).
I remove FreeSansBold.ttf, run "fc-cache -vf" and restart the frontend,
and I finally get
a better result which you can see in [1].

Can you (adn?) please let me know if the text looks right to you?

ciao,
Davide
