It is doubtful that cron itself is causing the problem. If your networking 
is broken, some parts of the boot process may take very long. Try letting 
it sit for a while...

If you want help with this, we will need more info, especially any 
messages shown on the console that may help find out why it hangs.

That will not work. If you want to try rescue, see the instructions in our 
FAQ [1], question 28.
